In what could be termed the first act of retribution in the UK for carrying out air strikes on ISIS targets in Syria, a man stabbed two people at a London Tube station on Saturday, claiming 'this is for Syria'.

According to NBC News, the incident took place around 7 pm at Leytonstone underground station. The attacker, a 29-year-old man, inflicted serious injuries on a 56-year-old man and caused minor injuries to another person. The incident was captured on video. The man was later subdued by cops after being tased.

Though the police are yet to ascertain motive behind the attack, those at the station said the stabber shouted 'This is for Syria.' London's Tube has been the target of suicide bombings in 2005 that left more than 50 people dead.

CNN reported police officials saying that the incident was being treated as a terrorist incident.

"We are treating this as a terrorist incident. I would urge the public to remain calm but alert and vigilant. The threat from terrorism remains at severe, which means that a terrorist attack is highly likely," said Cmdr. Richard Walton, head of the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command.

Terrorism threat to UK has been classified as 'severe' for more than a year now. Last week, UK began targeting ISIS sites in Syria.
