U.S. Issue Worldwide Alert for American Travelers
The United States have issued an alert for American travelers, stating that terrorist groups like ISIS, al-Qaeda and Boko Haram have continued "to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions."
"These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics, using conventional and non-conventional weapons and targeting both official and private interests," the state department said on Monday reported by CNN.
The alert added, "U.S. citizens should exercise vigilance when in public places or using transportation. Be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid large crowds or crowded places. Exercise particular caution during the holiday season and at holiday festivals or events."
The State Department said that it has been sharing information with its allies in order to foil potentially deadly plans.
Terrorist groups are known for targeting several public areas, venues, like sporting arenas and concerts, and forms of transportation. Over the past few months, ISIS has claimed responsibility for some of these attacks, which included the bombings and shootings in Paris that killed 129 people and the bombing of a Russian airplane in Egypt that killed 224. Over attacks carried out by different groups have occurred in countries such as Mali, Nigeria, Denmark and Turkey.
Due to these recent attacks, the department wants everyone traveling, especially during the holiday season, to be extra careful. The alert is not recommending that people avoid travel all together.
The last time that the U.S. issued a travel alert was in December 2014.
The travel warning expires on Feb. 24, 2016.
