Cavaliers Winning after LeBron Chalk Toss Stops
The chalk toss has disappeared! LeBron James, who asked Cleveland Cavaliers fans back in October whether or not they wanted the chalk toss back, has stopped this pregame routine after declaring "I stink" on Monday when the team dropped to 5-7.
Since the start of the season, LeBron and the Cavaliers have had trouble putting points on the board. During the first 12 games, LeBron averaged the lowest points per game since his rookie season. After losing four consecutive games, LeBron, who averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds, decided that things had to change.
"Most players shoot before games, usually somewhere between 90 and 50 minutes prior to game time. James hadn't done it once all season until Monday night, choosing instead to stretch and go through rigorous calisthenics and body maintenance with trainer Mike Mancias, who's followed him from Cleveland, to Miami, and back again," Joe Vardon from Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote. "Perhaps shooting before games was a way to help James begin games with a better feel for his shot."
LeBron got rid of his pregame chalk toss and started shooting with his teammates for about an hour before a game. He also played better defense and got more aggressive on the court.
Since these changes, the Cavaliers have won three straight games, which brought them back up to above .500. In these three games, LeBron' averaged 25.7 points, 8.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals.
With the Cavaliers back to winning, LeBron's signature chalk toss will probably not show up for awhile.
