The whatsapp users on android can now rejoice as the latest update will take the worry of excess memory usage off their hands. The new plans for backup storage feature for android platform has already been announced that will help you store your chat content and multimedia content on Google Drive. You can now backup your chat history, voice messages, photos and videos, all in Google Drive with the latest update, reported The Hindu.

The good thing about this added feature is that if you are switching phones or something happens to your current one then at least all your data is safe on the cloud storage. Once the users update their chat platform to the latest version, they will be able to see the Google Drive option in chat backup. Once you turn that feature on, the backup will happen automatically, says Indian Express.

So far, this update is still being rolled out, it is not available for users in India. Whatsapp is yet to give an official date when this feature will be made available to the Indian users. While this additional feature may not appeal to you in a day to day use but if you misplace your phone or your data is wiped out, you would be able to restore it all from your Google Drive. Whatsapp said that the automatic update is still in the planning stages but if you do not want to wait for the update, you can download the APK file from the website and install it on your android device, says IBN Live. The latest version is not yet available on the play store. However, once you download it using the APK file, the new version will prompt the users to sync their data to Google and then you will be able to see the backup option.
