Alien Megastructures: Scientists Probe Possible Civilization In New Star
Now, this star KIC 8462852 looks cool. It emits a "very strange transit signal", making scientists wonder whether that is due to "alien megastructures", according to HNGN.
"Over the duration of the Kepler mission, KIC 8462852 was observed to undergo irregularly shaped, aperiodic dips in flux down to below the 20 percent level," a paper published by the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society stated. "It was really weird. We thought it might be bad data or movement on the spacecraft, but everything checked out."
Perhaps it was due to the practices of an "advanced alien civilization", feel scientists. Their Dyson Spheres theory, a hypothesis that has been built by physicist Freeman Dyson, explains that "as aliens become more advanced they tend to harness a star's energy to the point that the entire star is sheathed in solar collectors," or what is called as the Dyson Sphere, according to Popular Science .
The second theory version, also called the Dyson swarm, talks of a collection in which, instead of enclosing the entire star with energy-collecting structures, these solar collectors will just circle around one or some of the orbits of the star, so that some part of the star is blocked off.
Scientists are attempting to test the Dyson theories through the Green Bank Telescope facility in West Virginia, which will help them to get an insight from radio signals emerging from the star's location.
