Two Juveniles Held for Hammering Bosnian Man to Death
St. Louis police have arrested two juveniles and are on the lookout for two other suspects after a Bosnian Man was beaten to death with hammers Sunday morning.
According to NBC News, St. Louis Metro Police informed that some police officials found 32-year-old Zemir Begic in an unconscious state at around 1:15 a.m. ET.
Police said that Begic was going home in his car from a bar in St. Louis early Sunday when a group of youngsters surrounded his car and began damaging it. When Begic got out of the car to confront them, the teenagers started yelling and attacked him with hammers, Daily Mail reports.
Begic sustained injuries to the head, abdomen, face and mouth. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspects have been described as Hispanic or black males. However, Police Chief Sam Dotson stated that the attack was not racially or ethnically motivated.
By Sunday evening, the news of Begic's death had spread and at least 50 panic-stricken members of the Bosnian community protested his killing in Bevo Hill and also briefly blocked an intersection.
They suspect that Begic was targeted because he was a Bosnian. This is not the first Bosnian man to be attacked. Another man of the community was murdered last year. An armed robber had killed 19-year-old Haris Gogic at his family's store in 2013.
"There is no indication that the gentleman last night was targeted because he was Bosnian. There's no indication that they knew each other." Dotson said.
Two teenagers, a 15-year-old and another 16 years, allegedly involved in the attack and have been taken in to custody. Investigation is in progress to determine what could have been the motive of such a gruesome attack.
