Officer Mike Flowers Retires After 35 Years Without A Single Sick Day's Leave
Now this is one officer with a steel frame. Officer Mike Flowers retired after 35 years in the Tuscaloosa Police Department, but with a 100 percent attendace, and without having taken a single sick day's leave. Which is one record that will be hard to beat, according to HNGN.
"One of the things I can say about this job is that I enjoy doing this or I wouldn't have done it for 35 years," the Tuscaloosa cop said.
"My mother always made me get up and go to school. Other than having the measles in the first grade I didn't miss any school days, either," said Flowers, convinced that it was all due to his mother's upbringing.
When he joined the Tuscaloosa Police Department on Oct. 4, 1980, he began to manage its 'east precinct and tactical team', reports NBC News
Of course, there were some minor accidents---but he managed to sail through those. "I had a motorcycle wreck one time where I had to have my ... my arm in a splint for about a week. But back in the '80s you were allowed to come to work with a splint on your arm. So I came to work and I rode my motorcycle with a splint on my arm," Flowers said.
The closest he came to taking leave was five years ago. When he wanted to attend his son's wedding, he tore his gall bladder, which made him undergo emergency surgery.
"I had to have emergency surgery. So I missed his wedding but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss any work," he said.
"Fortunately our police department has a light duty policy and I was able to come back to work."
