LA Lakers Rumors: Kobe Bryant has not thought about Retirement, is focused on Young Team
Kobe Bryant does not know what his future holds.
The 37-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star, who is entering the 20th season of his career, reiterated the fact that he has no set plans after this season.
"If it is, it is," Bryant said. "If it isn't, I'll be ready for next season. I don't spend too much time thinking about it. I've got enough to think about."
Bryant was also asked about his former coach Phil Jackson's comments that hinted to the possibility of Bryant leaving the Lakers for another team.
Jackson, who is the President of the New York Knicks, had said, "I don't think it's his last year. It sounds like it may be his last year as a Laker."
Bryant replied, "Everybody is going to have opinions. I can't comment on every single opinion that everybody makes, even if it's a coach that I won so many championships with and know extremely well. It's still his opinion. There will be many others."
Bryant also stated during Monday's media day that he is "a Laker for better or worse" and that he "bleed[s] purple and gold."
Instead of thinking about his future, Bryant has been helping rookie Julius Randle with his recovery. Randle broke his leg in his first ever NBA game last season and was just cleared for training camp. Bryant will also be playing alongside this year's first round draft pick, D'Angelo Russell.
"I'm excited to be back on the court. I'm excited to be out there with the young players who are starting their careers, starting their journeys," Bryant said. "I'm excited to help them out and kind of show them things I've learned. I'm as excited for this season as I've been in a long time."
Bryant has been plagued by injuries these past two seasons. He most recently recovered from a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder.
