Kate Middleton Latest Update: Why The Princess Is ONLY Allowed Female Bodyguards
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is reportedly only allowed to have female bodyguards due to Prince Charles' fears that a cheating scandal, similar to the one that surrounded the late Princess Diana, could surface.
"From the start, when Kate became engaged, it was Charles who made the women-only stipulation, saying he didn't want her compromised in any way," a former member of S014, the Scotland Yard, said according to The Express.
Ken Wharfe, who used to be Princess Diana's bodyguard, weighed in on the latest reports that Prince Charles likes to be involved when it comes to hiring bodyguards.
"I've heard that Prince Charles is more involved in who is being appointed," Wharfe said. "And if he asks for more women he will get more women. The trouble with Diana was she got on better with me. She did have a woman once but she didn't last long. You have to have a good chemistry with the person you're looking after."
The Express also alleged that Princess Diana did get too close with one of her bodyguards, Barry Mannakee, who was married. Mannakee was reportedly fired by Prince Charles, who supposedly found out about Princess Diana's true affections for Mannakee.
Eight months after he was let go, Mannakee died in a motorcycle accident on May 14, 1987. His death has been the subject of several conspiracy theories.
Middleton's bodyguard is 43-year-old sergeant, Emma Probert. Middelton reportedly really likes Probert, who used to be a flight attendant, like Middleton's mother. When Probert gets time off, her replacement is Karen Llewellyn, the security detail who also keeps an eye on the royal children.
Middleton just returned to the public eye after her maternity leave ended. She and Prince William welcomed their second child, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, back in May 2015. Their first child, George Alexander Louis, was born on July 22, 2013.
