Stephen Curry’s Little Brother Seth Curry Turned down Warriors to Sign with Kings
Seth Curry passed up on the opportunity to play with big brother, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors because he did not want to live in his brother's shadow.
"I didn't want to go to Golden State," the younger Curry said, according to Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated. "I didn't want to go back in Steph's shadow."
Curry, 25, reportedly got offers from the Warriors, Kings, Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans before he decided to sign a two-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $2 million with the Kings.
Curry's decision to play away from his brother will hopefully allow him to develop into his own player. If he had gone with Golden State, his career could have been defined by endless comparisons between him and Stephen, who was the 2015 NBA MVP and NBA Champion. Curry's father, Dell Curry, had played for the Hornets. Even though Dell no longer plays, comparisons between father and son would have definitely been made in Charlotte as well.
"I'm so happy for Steph and what he's accomplished," Seth said. "But you want it for yourself too."
In Sacramento, Jenkins noted that Curry and point guard Rajon Rondo, who is on a one-year contract, could make an interesting duo.
"Seth and Rondo could form a particularly intriguing pair, since Seth can space the floor with his shooting and Rondo cannot," Jenkins wrote.
Curry had a great Las Vegas Sumer League outing. He averaged 23.4 points, 2.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds. He shot 45.9 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from the three-point range.
