Portland Trail Blazers Rumors: Trail Blazers Eyeing Ricky Rubio – Damian Lillard Duo
The Portland Trail Blazers are rumored to be eyeing a trade for Ricky Rubio of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report reported:
"I'm hearing that the Minnesota Timberwolves are actually look at potentially moving off of Rubio at this point. They've seen enough, and they do not believe that he is the future, in spite of the fact that he's only 24. Now, they've tested the trade waters. I'm hearing that they're quiet right now, but that they could return to looking to see what they could get for Rubio once the season begins and some things shake out for some other teams, because they don't have any specific trade partners at the moment."
The Timberwolves have young talented guards in Tyus Jones and Zach Lavine that they can rely on over Rubio. They also have Andrew Wiggins and this year's top draft pick, Karl-Anthony Towns. Despite the amount of talent that the Wolves have, Rubio remains confident that they will not trade him.
In Portland, Rubio, a natural playmaker, would team up with point guard Damian Lillard, a high-scoring guard. If the two can play alongside one another, they have the potential to become a very effective duo.
"I have confidence that the team wants me but you know in this league anybody can get traded," Rubio said to Gulf News reported bye NBC Sports. "You don't listen to the rumors. You just live day-by-day and that's it."
Rubio only played in 22 games last season. He averaged 10.3 points and 8.8 assists. Lillard, 25, averaged 21 points, 6.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds during the 2014-15 season.
