Buffalo Bills Rumors: LeSean McCoy might not be Ready for Season Opener

The Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy might not be ready on time for the season opener.

A team source revealed to ESPN's Josina Anderson that McCoy sustained a left hamstring injury during practice back on Aug. 18. An MRI revealed that he has a "small tear."

"They say it tore in a spot where it couldn't have been any better for us. It tore in a spot that is kind of high up, surrounded by stronger muscles in the glutes and things like that," the source continued. "I can't say for sure he's going to be with us Week 1...I mean if he came around and just started feeling really, really good, heaven knows. But [we] have to look at all the contingency plans: putting him on a pitch count possibly, or, he's not out there at all and we got to go without him and get the other guys ready. You just don't know."

The source added that McCoy is still not at his full speed during practice and might not be in great "football shape" by the start of the season. The team's plans for week 1, however, include McCoy.

Head coach Rex Ryan stated earlier this week that they will "certainly expect him to be ready to go" but if he is not, they are ready to rely on the "next man."

The team source stressed the importance of resting McCoy if he is not 100 percent healthy.

"I would recommend that he doesn't play because [we] need him for the rest of the year. [We] don't need him at 75 percent and risk losing him down the line," the source said. "You know he is a Ferrari and for him to be hitting on all cylinders, that thing has got to be right."

McCoy has not participated in any practice games or drills since his injury.
