US Marines Stop French Terror Attack
When a gunman opened fire on a train in France, most of the passengers fled in terror, but two Americans were able to keep their wits about them and subdue the attacker, saving countless lives.
The New York Times reports that three people were injured when a 26-year-old Moroccan man wielding an automatic weapon and a knife struck. One of the Americans who subdued the attacker was also among the wounded. The attack took place on a high speed train traveling from Paris to Amsterdam, and the shooting began when the train was passing through Belgium.
The train ended up stopping in the French city of Arras where it was greeted by police and emergency personnel.
The BBC reports the men were U.S Marines who heard the man loading a weapon after entering the train's bathroom. They confronted the man when he exited the bathroom and an altercation ensued.
Those injured suffered from both knife and gunshot wounds, and it is unclear how serious the injuries are.
France has been on edge since a spate of terror attacks that followed after an attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in which a dozen people were killed.
