Wish To Control Your WhatsApp Privacy? Here's How To Disable Blue Ticks on Android Phones
WhatsApp, the largest cross-platform instant messaging application might have a massive fan following but its most recent update ticked some users off. The Facebook-owned chat application introduced a new feature called "Read Receipts" that can tell if a recipient has read the message. For those who have been trying to find ways to disable those blue ticks can finally rest their search.
Two blue ticks in WhatsApp symbolize read messages, much like the single tick refers to "message sent" and two ticks refer to "message delivered." WhatsApp did not have an option to disable the new feature, when it was released earlier this month. But Android users can now disable read receipts with these steps.
The resolution comes from WhatsApp but isn't officially a part of WhatsApp on Google Play Store. As the company's standard procedure, it releases new features on its website before pushing it through Play Store and other platforms.
In order to disable blue ticks on WhatsApp, users must download the latest version of WhatsApp 2.11.444 apk.
Since the update does not come from Play Store, users must first enable "Unknown Sources" under Settings>Security. Install the downloaded file from downloads or move it from your PC to the smartphone via USB connection and continue installation.
After installing the latest app, open WhatsApp and go to Settings. Select Account and click on Privacy. Users will find an option for "Read Receipts" among other privacy options. Disable read receipts and the blue ticks will disappear.
If the procedure to install the app seems too complicated, wait for WhatsApp to roll out the feature as a part of the official update via Play Store. Sadly, there is no timeframe as to when the company will do so. The option to disable blue ticks is available only on Android phones, while iOS and Windows Phone users must wait longer.
