The social networking giant, Twitter had introduced its new feature of sending direct personal messages between users on the platform. However, the direct personal messages had a constraint i.e, the direct messages ought to be limited by 140 characters only.

However, Twitter has now announced that the micro-blogging platform will now allow the users to send direct messages up to 10,000 characters, from the existing 140 characters limit. Therefore, Twitter now facilitates users to send longer private messages.

The company said, "Twitter has estimated the 140 character limit for direct message, and users can now exchange message privately of up to 10,000 characters, with the idea being that direct messages should seem limitless. Twitter aims to improve users messaging experience to give them the real estate to express themselves more freely and getting rid of the 140 character limit is just another step in that direction".

The new update is available to all users across the globe. However, mobile web users will be able to receive long direct messages, but not send them.
