Floyd Mayweather Jr. Disses Ronda Rousey Ahead of Fight No. 49
Floyd Mayweather Jr. found the time to add a jab about UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey while promoting his Sept. 12 fight against Andre Berto.
While defending his choice of opponent, Mayweather was asked about Rousey's comments. Instead of taking a cheap shot at Rousey's past, Mayweather only reminded everyone how much money he makes from fighting.
"I've yet to see any MMA fighter, or other boxer, make over $300 million in 36 minutes," Mayweather said. "When she can do that, then call me."
Rousey has a history of commenting on Mayweather's domestic violence record.
"I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once," Rousey said after winning the ESPY for Best Fighter. "I'd like to see him pretend to not know who I am now. I know for damn sure that he knew who I was, because he was running against me for Best Fighter that year and he has signed MMA fighters."
Rousey also referenced Mayweather's domestic abuse history when she was asked if she would ever fight Mayweather. Both fighters have dominated their weight class and have remained undefeated.
"I don't think that me and him would ever fight unless we ended up dating," Rousey had replied.
Rousey's record is currently 12-0. She recently defeated Bethe Correia at UFC 190 in 34 seconds. Mayweather, on the other hand, is seeking his 49th win later this year. The undefeated champion stated that he has been working hard everyday.
"I don't know why, but I'm just training a lot harder for this fight," Mayweather said reported by ESPN.com. "I just want to go out with a bang, I guess. And there's going to be blood. There's going to be knockdowns, and there's going to be blood. A lot."
Mawyeather has stated that this upcoming fight at the MGM Grand arena in Las Vegas will be his last.
"They say they'll offer me a lot of money. I have a lot of money," he said. "I'm OK...It's the end of my [Showtime] deal. I'm an old man now. I'm 38."
It is the last fight on his six-fight deal with Showtime/CBS, which he signed in 2013.
