MLB Trade Rumors: NY Mets in Talks for Ben Zobrist

The New York Mets are reportedly in talks for Oakland Athletics' Ben Zobrist.

The early reports revealed that the Mets would have to send multiple players to the A's in exchange for 34-year-old utility man, Zobrist, who is hitting .259 with five homers, 32 RBIs and 18 doubles. He has a .348 on-base percentage.

Zobrist made $7.5 million this season and is due to hit free agency after this season.

Zobrist would be a very valuable addition for the Mets, who are in need of a strong bat. He would also offer the team a lot of versatility. Zobrist, a two-time All-Star, has played at second base, left field and right field for the A's this season.

The reports, however, stated that no trade appears to be imminent. Ken Rosenthal with Fox Sports reported there were "no ongoing discussions."

There is no word on who the A's would want in return. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported last week that the Mets' will not be touching any of their top four pitchers - Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz.

Justin Upton and Carlos Gomez are two other players that are reportedly on the Mets' radar as well.

The Mets, who are currently second in the AL East with a record of 49-46, have until July 31, the non-waiver trade deadline, to make a deal.

The Mets will begin a four-game series at Citi Field against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
