Chicago Bulls Jimmy Butler Says he has no ‘Beef’ with Derrick Rose
Chicago Bulls Jimmy Butler has dispelled rumors that he had beef with teammate, Derrick Rose after they were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of playoffs.
Butler, 25, said on ESPN's First Take:
"I think he's always been supportive of me being aggressive, especially on offense. We all know that I'll be the aggressor on defense. So from what I can tell, the guy's always been in my corner...The only reason that it came up is because we lost. I don't think we have any beef or whatever you want to call it. I think we just want to win. We didn't win, so now [people say] we're beefing, now we have a problem with each other, and I don't think that's the case."
The rumors were claiming that Butler would not resign with the Bulls due to the tensions. At the time of the rumors, Butler tried to downplay these stories as well.
He had said, "I think we play well on the court together. With the more time we're out there together, we'll definitely get better at it. Off the floor, he has a son, so he has a family he has to take care of. I'm with my brothers a lot of the time, but when we have a chance we'll hang around each other. But I feel like we spend enough time together on the court. So I think when you're off the court you go your separate ways a little bit."
In free agency, Butler agreed to sign a five-year maximum contract extension worth more than $90 million with the Bulls.
"Chicago is where I wanted to be," the 2015 Most Improved Player said. "I love playing here. I love this city, the fans like me a little but...But rumors are rumors. I guess that's what they're there for, to entertain y'all."
Butler averaged a career-high 20 points and 5.8 rebounds this season. In the postseason, he averaged 22.9 points and 5.6 rebounds.
