Houston Rockets Re-Sign Corey Brewer, Patrick Beverley
The Houston Rockets have reportedly re-signed Corey Brewer and Patrick Beverley.
Brewer agreed to a three-year deal worth $24 million where as starter, Beverley accepted a four-year, $23.4 million deal. The final year on Beverley's contract is not guaranteed.
Brewer averaged 11.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in the regular season.
"I think if we can keep our group together and stay healthy, we can win it all," Brewer told ESPN.com. "I'm just happy as can be. So glad to be back for three more years."
The swingman had serious talks with the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks before talks with the Rockets heated up. The Boston Celtics were also very interested in Brewer until they lost interest after re-signing Jae Crowder.
Beverley, who only played in 56 games due to a left wrist injury, averaged 10.1 points, 3.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds. Even though Beverley was not the sharpest shooter, his defensive skills were vital for the Rockets. Opponents shot 32.1 percent from the three-point line against Beverly.
After these two deals, the Rockets reportedly feel like they have a shot at LaMarcus Aldridge, the most coveted free agent this year. A source, cited by ESPN.com, stated that Aldridge was impressed with the Rockets when he met with them on Tuesday.
Calvin Watkins wrote:
"On Tuesday, when the Rockets met with Aldridge, he was apparently impressed with the Rockets' presentation of how he fits with the team from an analytics standpoint. Also part of the Rockets' plan to sign Aldridge: The team wants to show him there's some experience on the bench (Brewer) and a commitment to defense at the guard position (Beverley).
In order to make an Aldridge deal happen, the Rockets would have to do a sign-and-trade with another team."
The Rockets and the free agents can officially sign contracts on July 9th.
