Peyton Manning Sends Autographed Photo and Loving Message to Grief-Stricken Family
Peyton Manning took the time to appreciate a late fan.
The Denver Broncos quarterback sent an autographed photograph and a loving, handwritten message to a family who lost their 15-year-old son, Logan Brown, earlier this year due to a drunk driving accident. Brown was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle that was being driven by a man whose blood alcohol content was four times higher than the legal limit.
Manning first heard of the tragedy by Brown's grandmother, Gayle Ricketts, who wrote a letter addressed to the quarterback.
Ricketts told WFIE-TV, "As a grandmother, I felt like I should let Peyton know this young man idolized him and what he meant in his life."
Ricketts received Manning's gifts on Tuesday, which would have been Brown's 16th birthday. The package included a photo of Manning with his signature and the message, "In memory of Logan Allen Brown," as well as a handwritten letter.
"It blew me away. I called Charles [Brown, Logan's father] when the letter came. I didn't even open it. I called Charles to come over. I said the Broncos answered me," Ricketts said. "And I know Logan is up there looking down. He's smiling. I think he will be happy."
Brown became a huge fan of Manning when he attended some of the Indianapolis Colts games earlier in his life. When Manning went to the Broncos, Brown reportedly deserted the Colts and became a Broncos fan.
