Albert Einstein's Personal Letters Fetch $ 420,000 In Auction
Albert Einstein's ideas changed the face of science but that he had profound thoughts regarding other matters in life was recently revealed when a large collection of personal letters was auctioned.
According to Fox News, 27 letters that Einstein wrote to various people including his children, uncle, friends and others were auctioned for $ 420,000 at the Profiles in History auction. In one of the letters, the genius physicist advised one of his sons to get more serious about geometry while in another he thanked an uncle for giving him a toy steam engine in childhood, sparking a life of learning. Another letter talks about Einstein link relativity to the atom bomb that was used against Japan.
In one of the letters that was known to exist before the auction, Einstein described his belief in god.
"I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one. You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist. I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being," Einstein had said on September 28, 1949 in a letter addressed to Guy H Raner Jr, who asked Einstein about his belief.
