Demi Lovato Replaces Katy Perry In Get Smurfy Sequel; Joins Other New Co-stars Rainn Wilson and Mandy Patinkin
Demi Lovato's acting prowess will be at work again as she is set to perform the voicing of Smurfette in the upcoming Smurfs' sequel, Get Smurfy.
"I'm so excited to announce that I will be voicing Smurfette in the new fully-animated Smurfs movie," the 22-year old former Disney child star announced in a promotional Youtube video via TV3.
Demi will replace the pop icon, Katy Perry who was involved in the first movie installments released in 2011 and 2013.
Demi joins other co-stars 49-year old Rainn Wilson and 62-year old father figure Mandy Patinkin in the video.
Rain Wilson is set to pray the evil wizard Gargamel's character while Patinkin will play Papa Smurf's role.
In the video, Wilson said, "Hi there, Rainn Wilson here, and I am very proud to announce that in 2017 there's going to be a brand new Gargamel movie."
An unknown person in the background corrects him that he is in a Smurf movie and not in the project he had hoped for.
"Wait, what? No, no, no, no, no. My agent told me it's a Gargamel movie. Gargamel 2017!'" he answered comically.
"'Rainn, I'm Mandy Potinkin. I've always dreamed of having 99 kids and having them listen to me. So I'm very happy to be voicing Papa Smurf in Get Smurfy," he said as transcribed by Mail Online.
According to Screen Rant, Get Smurfy is a 3D animated film which derives inspiration from the drawings of Peyo's originals.
It will be directed by Kelly Asbury who had worked on previous animated films Shrek 2 and Gnomeo and Juliet under Sony Productions.
The film, produced by Jordan Kerner (Charlotte's Web, The Smurfs) and co-produced by Mary Ellen Bauder (Hotel Transylvania), will be released on March 31, 2017, Coming Soon reports.
