Coffee May Improve Erectile Dysfunction In Men - Study

Men who suffer from erectile dysfunction should drink two or three cups of coffee each day, according to a new study.

In a new study, conducted by the  University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), which was published in PLOS ONE, researchers found that men who drink two or three cups of coffee each day have about a 40 percent less chance of experiencing erectile dysfunction. The study noted that you do not have to drink coffee to get the amount of caffeine needed to help reduce erectile dysfunction, just as long as you are consuming products equivalent to the amount of caffeine in about three cups of coffee.

Assistant Professor David S. Lopez, Dr.P.H., M.P.H., lead author of the study, said even though they saw a reduction in the prevalence of ED with men who were obese, overweight and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes. Since diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for ED, it wasn't surprising.

"Even though we saw a reduction in the prevalence of ED with men who were obese, overweight and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes. Diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for ED, so this was not surprising," David S. Lopez of the University of Texas said.

Data for the study came from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and ED was assessed by a single question during a computer-assisted interview.
