Billboard Music Award 2015 News: Sam Smith Delivers Acceptance Speech For Best Male Artist Awards Using Cue Cards; Advised Not To Speak For Three Weeks To Recover From Throat Surgery
Though Sam Smith had not been in the Billboard Music Awards Festival to receive the Best Male Artist Award, he made sure to drop a note thanking fans and his friends from the music industry who contributed to his success.
According to People, the Stay With Me crooner was unable to be present during the awards night in Las Vegas on Sunday as he is still in New York recuperating from his recent vocal surgery after he was earlier discovered to have hemorrhage in his vocal cords.
In a video aired during the celebration, the British singer expressed that being chosen as the Top Male Artist is an 'incredible honour'.
He, further, thanked his fans who love his music with him saying, "It's times like this that I realize how lucky I am to have you in my life. Can't wait to get this surgery out of the way so I can sing my ass off for you again."
And of course, he never failed to mention his close pals-Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Nicki Minaj dropping a joke for each of them.
Shortly after the awards night, the I'm Not The Only One hitmaker expressed gratitude over Twitter saying, 'AMAZING to have won 2 BBMAS!! Wish I could've been there. Thank you all for your love and support Xx', Mail Online said.
Sam underwent surgery on Thursday at the Massachusetts General Voice Center where he was seen with his mother and the rest of the family hours after the surgery.
The Billboard Music Awards is just one of the few events that Smith has cancelled. Last month, he has to cancel dates for his Australian tour as advised by his vocal surgeon to the stars, Dr Steven Zeitels who also advised Sam to maintain 'silence' for three several week so he can recover, Mirror said.
In a previous Twitter post, he said: "But by doing this in 8 weeks time I'm gonna be able to sing like never before so it's worth it. I am so sorry to all. Dreading the next month thou, I can't speak for THREE WEEKS after the op. (sic)"
