Cate Blanchett Reveals Sexuality: Oscar Winner Admits Being 'Carol' More than Once
Actress Cate Blanchett admitted to having flings with other women during a recent interview promoting her new movie Carol, which sees her reel life character fall for a younger woman.
When the interviewer asked Blanchett if playing a lesbian was a first for her, the actor asked "On film - or in real life?" and replied she had relationships with women several times in the past, though she did not reveal details. To prepare for her role as a woman's lover, Blanchett said reading helped. "I read a lot of girl-on-girl books from the period."
Carol is filmmaker Todd Haynes' adaption of Patricia Highsmith's novel 'The Price of Salt' which is set in a 1950s departmental store. In the movie, a married woman Carol (Blanchett) falls in love with a younger store girl played by actress Rooney Mara.
Blanchett also revealed that discussions with costume designer Sandy Powell helped preparing for the role.
"We asked, 'What is the most erotic part of the body?' We kept saying that wrists are really erotic. The neck. The ankles. The way Highsmith writes, she's got this exquisite observation of detail that most people would miss, but a lover's eye never would. We talked a lot about erogenous zones," the 45-year old Australian actor said.
