McDonalds Rolls Out Update Hamburglar Ad After a 13 Year Hiatus

McDonald's is bringing back the Hamburglar after a 13 year absence and clearly a lot has changed.

The character will appear in television spots promoting the chain's new Sirloin Third Pound burger and will make "surprise appearances" on the company's various social media platforms, according to a new report in Mashable.

"We felt it was time to debut a new look for the Hamburglar after he's been out of the public eye all these years," Joel Yashinsky, McDonald's' Vice President of U.S. Marketing said in a statement to Mashable. "He's had some time to grow up a bit and has been busy raising a family in the suburbs and his look has evolved over time."

In a tweet and Facebook post followed by a YouTube video, McDonald's teased the character's newest guise as "the man in stripes." Now a BBQ king and suburban dad, he's only moonlighting as a burger thief.

Publicity photos reveal a grown man in a more fashionable version of the old costume, including a black trenchcoat and fedora with a yellow band. The previous version of the character appeared to be a mischievous child dressed in an old time black-and-white prisoner's uniform with a hat and cape.
