Apple's next-generation Apple TV will include a revamped remote featuring a touch-pad, according to a New York Times report.

The report citing officials familiar with the plans said the new Apple TV remote will be 'slightly thicker' than current version and the 'touch-pad' will be used for scrolling content. The remote along with 'touch-pad' will also feature two physical buttons.

The touch pad will likely replace the circular click-wheel style control that's on the existing remote. It's expected to provide an easier way to browse content on Apple TV.

The redesign for the new remote will be the first big change to the Apple remote since the Apple TV's introduction in 2007, NYT noted.

Apple TV is essentially a set-top box that connects to a TV, allowing users to stream content over an Internet connection.

Apple is expected to introduce its new TV box this summer during Apple's annual conference for software developers.

The service will offer a bundle of channels that is smaller and cheaper than the broad catalog of offerings in a typical cable subscription, according to these people, NYT added.

Apple is also rumored to be working on an accompanying Internet-based television service, which may see it providing between 20 and 30 channels at a price of $30 to $40 per month.
