Meerkat For iOS Now Lets You Publish Live Streams To Facebook; Users Need Not To Have Twitter Account Anymore
Meerkat has updated its iOS app to add features like ability to publish live stream to Facebook. The updated app would also allow you to post upcoming and currently airing live streams' links to phone contacts.
The service, that attracted more than 300,000 users just in a month, is also announcing a new feature - Mobbing. The feature is a new status ranking that will push your live stream to the app's main feed if it meets certain criteria.
Users will also now be able to turn their avatars into emojis as a way to react to a live stream in progress. With the update, the service is removing the necessity of having a Twitter account to use Meerkat.
Before today's update, Meerkat relied solely on Twitter to push its livestreams to a user's network. Now, with the Facebook integration, Meerkat livestreams will be able to reach more people on multiple networks. Also, giving users the option to link their phone contacts to Meerkat will improve discoverability on the app, Venture Beat noted.
Twitter and Meerkat have been at odds since Twitter launched a competing live streaming service called Periscope.
