The Brooklyn Nets are focused on resigning key players now that their playoff dreams have ended. The Nets were eliminated by the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Atlanta Hawks, on Friday.

Nets Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young are expected to opt out of the final year of their respective contracts. The pair will become free agents this summer. However, according to ESPN's Mike Mazzeo, the Nets want to resign both players.

Mazzeo wrote:

"The expectation is that the Nets want to re-sign both Lopez and Thaddeus Young, according to sources, and that could happen after both opt out of the final year of their contracts and agree to multi-year deals to stay in Brooklyn...

The pressure now falls on Nets GM Billy King, who is entering the final year of his contract, to re-shape the roster. Brooklyn needs to continue to get younger, faster and more athletic. The Nets also need leadership. They need more talent. Basically, they need everything."

Lopez was the subject of trade rumors throughout the season. Over the final weeks of the regular season, Lopez' upped his performance and led the Nets to the playoffs.

Lopez averaged 17.2 points with 7.4 rebounds. During the playoffs, he averaged 19.8 points with 9.0 rebounds. Young averaged 14.1 points with 2.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds.
