Philadelphia Eagles set to Sign Quarterback Tim Tebow
After a two-year hiatus, quarterback Tim Tebow is returning to the NFL.
According multiple reports, the Philadelphia Eagles are set to sign Tebow. Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported on the story first.
ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote, "Tebow is scheduled to arrive in Philadelphia -- and get a deal done -- in time to be in attendance for the start of the Eagles off-season program Monday. Philadelphia has finalized an agreement with the 27-year-old Tebow, the framework of which was put into place when he worked out for the team last month."
With the Eagles, the former Heisman Trophy winner would be reuniting with former teammate March Sanchez. The pair played together with the New York Jets in 2012. The team's other quarterback is Sam Bradford, who they acquired from the St. Louis Rams this offseason in exchange for Nick Foles. Tebow will most likely be the team's third quarterback if he does not get cut before the start of the season.
Bryn Swartz with Bleacher Report wrote:
"It's also worth noting that Tebow has shown a knack for winning close games in the fourth quarter. In 14 career starts, he's led seven game-winning drives in the fourth quarter. Throw in the playoffs and it's eight of 16. That's an insane rate. He also had the NFL's best QBR in the final five minutes of fourth quarters in 2011.
Now none of this will mean much for the Eagles in 2015 because there's no chance he'll be a starter. In fact, don't be surprised if he doesn't even make the team. Now the instinct here is that Kelly wouldn't have brought him in if he didn't have a plan for him as his third quarterback.
If Tebow does make the team, and it'll almost certainly be as the third quarterback behind either Marcus Mariota or Sam Bradford, and Mark Sanchez, it'll be interesting to see what type of packages Kelly has for him."
Tebow gained widespread recognition during the 2011 season with the Denver Broncos. Tebow led them to the playoffs as well as a playoff victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. After that year, however, Tebow has not had the same impact.
In his three seasons, he completed 173 of 361 passes for 2,422. He recorded 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
After failing to make it past training camp with the New England Patriots in August 2013, Tebow has been working as an analyst for ESPN and the SEC Network
Tebow tweeted after getting cut by the Patriots, "I will remain in relentless pursuit of continuing my lifelong dream of being an NFL quarterback."
Now, Tebow will get his opportunity in Philly.
