Android Wear Will Soon Work On iPhones

Google is close to making Android Wear - Google's Android operating system designed for smartwatches and other wearables - work on the iPhone, according to reports.

An exclusive report on The Verge noted that the search giant is close to finishing the final technical details. If Google released it and if Apple allowed it on its platform, it would put Android Wear smartwatches directly in competition with the soon-to-be-released Apple Watch for the first time, the report added.

As of now, the Android Wear works along with a companion app on the iPhone supporting basic functions like notifications. The iPhone Android Wear also supports Google Now information cards, voice search and other voice actions.

"We always want as many users as possible to enjoy our experience, so in terms of enabling more people to use Android Wear we're very interested in making that happen," said Android Wear product manager Jeff Chang, hinting towards the possibility.

However, the question is whether or not Apple would allow the Android Wear companion app in its App Store. Recently, Apple rejected an app just for mentioning Android.

Apple did not comment on the story while Google said it "has nothing to announce at this time."

Meanwhile, Android Wear for Android is soon getting a significant update in the near future, including support of gestures and Wi-Fi.
