Apple started accepting the preorders for its highly anticipated smartwatch - Apple Watch on Friday night. However, majority of customers looking to buy one were disappointed as many versions of the watch were sold out within minutes.

According to reports, the shipping date for the black Apple Watch Sport was already estimated to be the middle of next month. Few minutes later, the time frame was pushed to late May.

By 12:40 a.m., the Apple Watch Edition -- the most high-end of the three models -- in rose gold showed a ship date of July. For the yellow gold version, it was even longer: August, LA Times reported.

#AppleWatch was trending on Twitter as customers flooded the site with their excitement (and remorse in some cases).

"DONE. Use the Apple Store app. Just bought 2. Goodnight!!!!," tweeted @sm.

"Anyone else got 2-4 weeks delivery on the watch? Everyone I see is 4-6...," tweeted @_iest.

Reportedly every Apple Watch Edition in China Store is out of stock.

The pre-orders means that shoppers can also begin signing up for appointments to try on the watch at Apple's retail stores. Reportedly, the try-on appointments were also in high demand.

The Apple Watch will be released on April 24.
