Andrew Getty, the grandson of one of the most storied American industrialists, was found dead on Thursday in his home in Los Angeles. He was 47 years old.

Getty was found  naked from the waist down and appeared to have suffered some sort of blunt force trauma. After a preliminary investigation, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said the death appeared to be from accidental or natural causes, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Andrew Getty  was discovered "halfway in the bathroom in the hallway," L.A. coroner Ed Winter told People Magazine. "He was partially clothed and it looked like he was trying to get to the bathroom."

A statement from Andrew Getty's parents, Ann and Gordon Getty, provided no details as to the cause of death. They only asked the media and public respect the family's privacy.

"This does not appear immediately to be a criminal act," Cmdr. Andrew Smith, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman, told the newspaper.

Getty has a previous record of drug addiction, but  according to the coroner, "he had been clean and sober for some time."

Meanwhile, court records show Andrew Getty had recently filed to get a restraining order against an ex-girlfriend. A hearing in the case had been scheduled for next week.

Andrew Getty's grandfather J. Paul Getty was an industrialist who founded the Getty Oil Co. and was at one point named the richest living American by Fortune magazine. He had five sons and died in 1976 at age 82.

Forbes estimated the Gettys' net worth to be about $5 billion.
