Nusra Front Issues Threat Over Air Strikes
Al qaeda affiliate Nusra Front warned the western countries Sunday against participating in the U.S. led airstrikes and said that it will use all possible means to retaliate against the coalition.
Nusra Front leader Abu Mohammed al Golani described the coalition as a "crusader alliance" against the Sunni Muslims and pledged to retaliate.
"We will use all that we have to defend the people of Syria...from the Crusader alliance," Golani said. "And we will use all possible means to achieve this end," he said.
"This is what will cause the battle to be transported to the hearts of your own homes; because Muslims will not stand idly by and watch Muslims be bombed and killed in their countries, while you are safe on your countries. The price of war will not be paid by your leaders alone. You will pay the biggest price," Golani said, warning the western countries against participating in the alliance, reports the Associated Press.
Initially, the U.S. led airstrikes had also targeted Nusra Front and had killed several members of the group. According to the US officials, the air strikes were targeted against the al Qaeda affiliate called the Khorasan group, which was planning attacks in America and European countries.
However, moderate Syrian rebels are angry at the coalition airstrikes as they consider Nusra Front as their supporter. The rebels also say that the airstrikes have not hit the military of Syrian President Assad.
Golani said that the airstrikes would sap the strength of the rebels.
He also asked the rebels not to fight against the Islamic State even though they endured suffering from the group.
"(Islamic State injustice) should not push any of you to be driven behind the West and take part in the alliance which they want to use to end jihad." he said, reports Reuters.
