Brazilian-born Guilherme Carbagiale Fuck, a 6 foot 6 inch forward playing basketball for the Medical Hat College in Alberta has received approval from his team to use his last name on his jersey.

Guilherme Fuck's name has German roots, meaning 'fox' and is actually pronounced 'foo-key'.

But it's easy to see how the name could raise eyebrows in English speaking countries and as a consequence, Fuck was unable to use his last name on his jersey.

For years, the No 14 player had to contend with using his middle name but was finally allowed to his real last name when the team was placed seventh in the recent March Canadian Tournament.

"When they asked my opinion I said I want to have my last-last name, I'm not ashamed of it," said Fuck. "I would rather always use my last-last name. Back in Brazil that's what I use, I don't use my first-last name."

Coach Craig Price has been supportive of Fuck's decision to use his last name even as he had to explain the origins of his name to man reporters present during the game.

Many reporters initially assumed the name printed on the jersey could have been a typo.

Meanwhile Fuck has been a really good player for the Medical Hat College averaging 18.5 points per game. He has a 52 per field goal percentage and a 42.5 per cent in threes.
