Professional Dancer With Huge Birthmark On Face Refuses Surgery; Says It Makes Her More Unique
A professional dancer who often grabs attention from onlookers because of a prominent birthmark on her face said that she is proud the way she looks and would never want to change any of it, a report from Mail Online said.
Cassandra Naud, 22, who hails from Alberta, Canada is now living in LA and has participated in one of the dancing stints in the sports channel, ESPN which featured Maroon 5. From time to time, she also worked in the popular kid's channel, Nickelodeon.
"My birthmark is a huge part of me. It makes me unique and memorable, which is especially important for the career I've chosen," she said in an interview.
As reported in Express UK, her parents Richard, 60, a power engineer, and France, 50, a school caretaker considered removing it. However, they changed their minds when doctors explained that the surgery will make her face heavily-scarred. Also, the operation may also affect eye tissues.
"As my birthmark sunk through several layers of skin, plastic surgery was the only option for removal. Doctors gave my parents a choice, warning them there could be scarring or I could be left with a lazy eye."
The LA-based dancer also admitted having been bullied by other kids in school when she was growing up. These incidents, once, made her change her mind and let her consider having plastic surgery.
"They'd taunt me saying: 'You'll get beat up in high school' and 'The hair on your cheek is gross. Their cruel remarks were hard to deal with and I'd often fight back tears. I felt ugly - even if only for that moment - and I was terrified of how I'd be treated once I got to high school."
Again, a surgeon explained to her about the scarring that would result from the operation. And since then, she never thought about having an operation ever again.
In her career, Cassandra recalled that one casting director suggested that she will 'digitally-removed' and photoshopped the scar on her face in the head shots but she did not mind the pressure and has decided to keep her look, according to a report from Hollywood Life.
Naud, however, admitted that her birthmark is a limiting factor to take up other roles that require a perfect face.
"A lot of roles require the performers to have a certain appearance. I'm never going to be hired by Disney, for example, because they want the 'perfect' look but I'm OK with that," she said.
Cassandra Naud's birthmark also did not stop her from being a in a healthy and happy relationship. She is currently in a relationship with 21-year Patrick Cooke whom she met in one of the dance auditions.
