Game Of Thrones Updates: TV Series to Debut Before RR Martin Books
Game of Thrones filmmakers, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, addressed the issue of spoiling two of George RR Martin's unreleased books since HBO will be airing season 6 soon even with the remaining books still unpublished.
"We'll eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going; there might be a few deviations along the route, but we're heading toward the same destination," said Benioff. "I kind of wish that there were some things we didn't have to spoil, but we're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. The show must go on.... And that's what we're going to do," Benioff said amidst the Oxford Union Crowd over the weekend as reported by National Monitor.
Benioff further said that Martin and producers in HBO have already been discussing this possibility for a long time. He also assured the airing of "Winds of Winter" or "A Dream of Spring," supposed to be the sixth and seventh book installments will not affect the sales of the book.
"I think the thing that's kind of fun for George is the idea that he can still have surprises for people even once they've watched the show through to the conclusion," he said.
Instead, he said that fans will be more eager to discover more about their favorite characters in the show and the exposure will lead them to compare which scenes have been cut for cinematic purposes.
According to Vanity Fair, the upcoming fifth season of Game of Thrones will be the final ones that will describe the ending of the plots in Books 4 and 5 (A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons). By then, fans of the book and the series will be excited for Season 6 and the release of Book 6 (The Winds of Winter).
As of January this year, George RR Martin's publicist do not have knowledge yet on the status of the author's new books which later lead her to conclude that the author would not be releasing any book in 2015.
Meanwhile, Slash Film said that Martin is trying hard to finish Book 6 and had even cancelled his trip to San Diego Comic-Con so he can concentrate on his writing.
As for David Benioff, the filmmaker thinks that rushing George RR Martin would not be a good idea.
"[A]t the same time, George has his process. And if it takes him 20 years to finish the series, that's what it should take him. He's writing, to my mind, the great fantasy epic of our time. So we can't rush him and I wouldn't want to rush him. [But] at the same time, we can't put the show on hiatus," he said.
