To capture a bigger chunk of the TV market, Chinese gadget maker Xiaomi launched a 40 inch version of Mi TV 2.

The full-HD TV is drawing attention for its price tag - $ 322, which makes it one of the most affordable fHD LED television sets in the market. Originally, Mi TV 2 was launched about a year ago in a 49-inch 4K set, running Android with MIUI interface. It competes with offerings from other brands in the smart TV segment. The 49-inch Mi TV 2 is hugely popular in China.

The 40-inch variant features a 1.45GHz quad-core MStar 6A908 Cortex-A9 CPU coupled with Mali-450 MP4 GPU and 1.5GB of DDR3 RAM with a modest 8 GB of onboard storage. It will retail with Android 4.4 but Xiaomi has promised a Lollipop update.

Like its older cousin, the 40-inch TV features Sharp SDP X-GEN full-HD panel with a LED backlight module, a narrow 14.4mm bezel, and 5000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

NDTV reports that the new variant will go on sale March 31 through Xiaomi's website in China. It is not know if the Mi TV 2 will be available outside China.
