Baltimore Ravens Bernard Pierce Charged with DUI
The Baltimore Ravens cannot catch a break. According to reports, Ravens running back Bernard Pierce was arrested and charged for driving under the influence (DUI) and speeding early Wednesday morning.
The Baltimore County police informed the Baltimore Sun that Pierce, 24, was arrested in Towson just before 2 a.m ET. He was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang and was reportedly going 55 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone at Dulaney Valley Road and I-695.
Pierce failed the field sobriety tests and was taken to the precinct for processing before being released. The police stated that Pierce was cooperative.
"We are aware of the situation and learning more about it. We take these matters seriously," Ravens spokesman Chad Steele stated.
Pierce was selected by the Ravens in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft. He was expected to replace Ray Rice but was plagued by injuries. In his two seasons with the Ravens, he averaged less than four yards per carry.
Pierce is the third Raven to get arrested during this offseason. Earlier in the year, defensive tackle Terrence Cody and defensive back Victor Hampton were arrested. Cody was arrested on animal cruelty charges and Hampton was arrested for driving while impaired. Both players have been released.
