The Viral Dress is Back Again, This Time With an Important Message
The dress that caused a stir online last week as to whether it was white and gold, or black and blue is back again. This time, for a good cause.
The Salvation Army in South Africa used a photograph of the dress that went viral for a campaign against domestic violence. The original photograph took the Internet by storm because of an optical illusion that left people unable to agree whether it was black and blue or white and gold.
In the ad, a woman is seen wearing the dress. The image, which features a woman covered in bruises and wearing the dress, states: "The only illusion is if you think it was her choice."

A spokesperson for the Salvation Army in the UK told i100.co.uk: "The Salvation Army sees the devastating effects of domestic violence on women, men and children every day. We support people who are affected in our human trafficking work, our specialist services, Lifehouses and community centres.
"We know that one in four women are victims of domestic violence in the UK: this innovative and powerful campaign by The Salvation Army in South Africa highlights that domestic violence is often overlooked by society. We hope this image helps people to see the true impact of this crime."
even with @jax wearing the actual dress I still see white/gold in the pic #idol pic.twitter.com/yWYwCb4Kjl — Ryan Seacrest (@RyanSeacrest) March 6, 2015
The Salvation Army operates a number of shelters for battered women and children, two of which are in South Africa, and in addition to being posted on Twitter the ad ran in a Cape Town newspaper.
