HBO Planning To Launch HBO Now Video Streaming Service; In Talks With Apple, Google
HBO network is planning to launch its much anticipated HBO Now video streaming service and is in talks with Apple and Google for a launch partner, according to various media reports.
The service's retail price is expected to be $15 a month and will be launched next month, timed to the season premier of HBO's blockbuster series "Game of Thrones," according to IBT, which cited sources familiar with the matter.
HBO is in talks with at least five companies including Apple and Google to distribute the Web-only service, according to Bloomberg.
"We know there's great anticipation around our standalone streaming service," an HBO spokesman said in a statement. "And when we have details to share, we will do so."
Google or Apple has not commented.
Reportedly, HBO Now will give customers direct access to HBO with only a broadband connection.
