The US ambassador to South Korea was attacked in Seoul.

Yonhap News reports that Ambassador Mark Lippert was on his way to give a lecture when the attack occurred.

CNN reports that Lippert was attacked with a small razor blade. Images from the scene showed Lippert clutching the right side of his face. Large amounts of blood were also visible on Lippert's face, arms and hands.

The attack was arrested at the scene, but CNN says that police are looking for another possible suspect. The suspect in custody is believed to be in his mid 60s.

Lippert is a graduate of Stanford University and former US Navy SEAL, where he served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He received a Bronze Star and Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his efforts.

He was previously the Chief of Staff for former Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel. Lippert also held various positions in the State Department and worked with President Barack Obama when he was a senator on the Senator Foreign Relations Committee.
