If you're a fan of Cyanogen OS, here's a good new for you: The company has announced a new 6-inch phablet from Alcatel that will run the Cyanogen OS.

The latest - and largest - phone to be released with Cyanogen OS is the Alcatel "Hero 2+ - a 6-inch phablet with HD display eight-core ARM processor, 13 megapixel camera, 4G radio and 16 gigabytes of storage - all for just $299 (unlocked).

The phablet will be available in the US this spring and will be sold online by Amazon.com, which is running Alcatel's "OneTouch" mobile store on behalf of the French phone maker.

Cyanogen OS already powers a handful of smartphones across the world such as Oppo N1 and OnePlus One.

The new Hero 2+ will run Cyanogen OS 11, which is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and most likely will be upgradable to a newer version when it releases.

Selling points of Cyanogen OS include the ability to customize the interface, camera tools and extensive privacy and security features.

In other related news, Cyanogen has launched a new branding, ditching android mascot logos and abundance of cyan for cleaner fonts and a simpler approach. The company is also partnering with Qualcomm to develop software for its Reference Design (QRD).
