China is working on completing a third airfield in the South China Sea despite the fact that it previously said that it had stopped its construction activities, which the United States and a number of regional nations have demanded stop.
China claims to have stopped its efforts to build artificial islands in the contested Spratly Islands of the South China Sea as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry beseeched China to stop the reclamation works calling them "problematic."
China has blamed the United States for rising tensions in the South China Sea because the United States has increased naval and air patrols while China continues to make artificial islands, some of which house military equipment.
In a move sure to stoke tensions in East Asia, China has announced plans to construct lighthouses on a number of islands and reefs in the South China Sea claimed by other nations.
