The 38-year-old world's oldest panda in captivity, Jia Jia, was euthanized Sunday at the Hong Kong theme park where she lived because of rapid health deterioration, with greatly reduced food consumption and a marked decrease in weight.

Pandas can only absorb 17 percent of the bamboo they consume and gut bacteria are better suited at digesting meat, the study found.
Researchers collared five pandas and tracked them with GPS to find they interact with other members of the species.
