HTC Debuts Its First Wearable: HTC Grip [Top Features]

Along with One M9 smartphone and VR headset, HTC also unveiled its first wearable HTC Grip. Against the speculation that the wearable would be a smartwatch, HTC instead announced a GPS enabled fitness tracker.

The Grip is geared more toward the serious athlete, than the occasional exerciser. The band has been launched in partnership with Under Armour - an American company that manufactures sports clothing and accessories. It will work with the UA Record fitness app, available for both iOS and Android.

The Grip is not just a simple step tracker, but it's capable of recording various types of workouts, including running, cycling, weight training and gym sessions, as Re/code notes. In addition it can also work as a sleep monitor.

The Grip is made from a durable, waterproof rubber material and features a 1.8.-inch curved touch PMOLED display.

The Grip, however, fails to create a positive early impression. Bonnie Cha, writing for Re/code, write: "The design is pretty clunky. It's one of the wider fitness trackers I've seen, and the band is so stiff that it makes it difficult to put on. Also, while the clasp is secure, it requires some force to snap close."

HTC Grip will be available this spring for $199 at HTC.com, Under Armour, AT&T, Sports Authority, Walmart and other retailers.
