Scarlett Johansson John Travolta’s Oscar Kiss Was NOT "Strange," According to Actress
Scarlett Johansson has finally commented on the picture of John Travolta giving her a kiss during the 87th Annual Academy Awards.
The 30-year-old actress stated to the Associated Press Thursday that the kiss was not creepy. Many people were speculating that "The Avengers" star was uncomfortable when Travolta snuck up and planted a smooch on her cheek while wrapping one arm around her waist. In the photo that has been circulating the Internet, the whole situation looked very awkward.
Johansson, however, stated that she had not "seen John in some years and it is always a please to be greeted by him."
"The image that is circulating is an unfortunate still-frame from a live-action encounter that was very sweet and totally welcome," Johansson said in her statement. "That still photo does not reflect what preceded and followed if you see the moment live. There is nothing strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta."
She added that the picture is a perfect example of how "we are misguided, misinformed and sensationalized by the 24-hour news cycle."
Johansson and Travolta worked together on the 2004 drama, "A Love Song for Bobby Long."
Travolta, 61, also made the news following the Oscars for being very touchy with Idina Menzel's face. Travolta's rep clarified that the face touching was all rehearsed.
"It was rehearsed in total. John Travolta loved working with Idina Menzel. John had a great time at the Oscars because his wife, Kelly Preston, and his daughter, Ella, were in attendance with him," his rep told US Weekly.
Travolta will return to television for a role in Ryan Murphy's "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson."
