Harrison Ford to Reprise Role in Blade Runner Sequel
Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role as the bounty hunter Rick Deckard in a sequel to the 'Blade Runner'. Denis Villeneuve who garnered critical praise for his earlier film 'Prisoners' will be directing the new film.
The sequel to the dystopian neo noir film, comes more than 30 years after the release of the first film. The 1982 movie was originally adapted from the Philip K Dick's 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.'
Villeneuve replaces director Ridley Scott who will now be seen in the role of a producer alongside Alcon Entertainment's Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. Hampton Fancher who was one of the writers of the first film has this time, joined hands with screenplay writer Michael Green.
The story is set decades after the events in the first film and fans believe the plotline will be adapted to suit Ford's age. The actor is said to be impressed with the screenplay and is excited to begin shooting, which has been scheduled for the summer of 2016.
When Scott sent the script to Ford, the actor is said to have remarked, "Wow, this is the best thing I've ever read."
In a joint statement made by Kosove and Johnson, they said "We are honored that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on 'Prisoners. Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn't be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team."
