Miami Heat Update: Team Signs Michael Beasley to a 10-day Contract

Michael Beasley will return to the team that he started his career with.

The Miami Heat reportedly signed Beasley to a 10-day contract on Thursday, sources reported. This will be Beasley's third stint with Miami.

According to several reports, Beasley, 26, was seen working out in Miami and using the team's facility before his contract was finalized.

Beasley is a proven scorer and could be just what the Heat need right now to stay in playoff contention. The Heat (25-31) are currently ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference.

The addition of Beasley comes shortly after the Heat announced that their star Chris Bosh is going to miss the remainder of the season due to blood clots in his lung.

Beasley was the Heat's number two overall pick in the 2008 draft. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in July 2010 in a deal that ultimately allowed the Heat to acquire Bosh and LeBron James.

In his first year with the Timberwolves, he averaged 19.2 points. He made his return to Miami in September 2013 but only stayed for one season. He played in 55 regular season games and averaged 7.9 points in 15.1 minutes.

He spent the 2014-15 season playing abroad in China for the Yao Ming-owned Shanghai Sharks where he put up huge numbers. He also scored a record 59 points in the Chinese Basketball Association All-Star Game.

According to CBSSports.com's James Herbert, head coach Erik Spoelstra will expect Beasley to play hard.

Herbert wrote: "The way head coach Erik Spoelstra works, he'll still expect Beasley to take good shots, move the ball quickly and execute his defensive scheme. If the 26-year-old wants to stay in the league for good this time, he'll do that."

Beasley will be available for the Heat during Friday night's game against the New Orleans Pelicans.
