Lupita Nyong’o’s $150,000 Calvin Klein Oscar Dress Disappears from Hollywood Hotel Room
Lupita Nyong'o's gorgeous Oscar dress that was made with 6,000 Akoya pearls is missing.
The Calvin Klein gown worth $150,000 was reportedly taken from the actress's hotel room at The London West Hollywood on Tuesday, a source told the New York Daily News. The crime was first reported by TMZ.
According to TMZ's sources, the Oscar-winning actress for "12 Years a Slave" called the police and reported her gown missing. Nyong'o, 31, stated that the gown could have been taken from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The police are currently investigating the case and will look at the hotel's security footage. It is unclear whether or not her hotel room was ransacked. No other items have been reported missing.
"We got a call at about 11:30 last night from someone at the London Hotel about a high value dress that was stolen from a hotel room," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Officer John Mitchell confirmed.
"I can confirm a dress was stolen from the London Hotel that belonged to the actress Lupita Nyong'o," a spokesperson from the L.A. sheriff's department said to US Magazine. "We believe it was taken sometime during the day yesterday (2/25). We are looking at every scenario; when the cleaners go to clean the rooms they do it with the door open so that's a possibility. Currently we are still investigating, detectives are interviewing and looking for witnesses."
The Daily News reported that Nyong'o had a large group of people with her. Her entourage, which included friends, make up artists, hair stylists, fitters, and more, all had access to her hotel room.
The stunning dress was hand made specifically for Nyong'o.
Francisco Costa told The Daily News on Sunday. "Working closely with Lupita over the past few months...we decided to use natural pearls to create a truly modern, timeless dress that compliments her style and echoes the aesthetic of Calvin Klein Collection."
Nyong'o wore the dress to the 87th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday on a loan from the designer.
